The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. This is Secret Beach on Kauai's north shore, bathed in morning light. I'd been warned of how unpredictable and dangerous the high surf can be in the winter, and sure enough, seconds after this was shot I was waist high in sea water... Luckily the camera gear survived! But I didn't venture too close again.
