A vernal pool captured on the summit of Enchanted Rock during a brief rain storm in the Texas Hill Country. Clear skies and fluffy clouds are on the horizon while rain drops splash in the pool. Vernal pools are patches of vegetation that develop on bare rock in depressions formed by weathering over thousands of years. They are fragile and threatened ecosystems that host a variety of plants and tiny animals.
